Engagement Manager

The Engagement Manager is responsible for managing existing client relationships, as well as driving new business development. Key responsibilities include ensuring on-time and on-budget project deliverables for our clients by liaising with project teams and key stakeholders, both internally as well as at the client.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as key point of relationship contact with clients and manages client relationship from beginning to end, including:
    • Responding to inquiries and leads and coordinating a cross-functional team to set-up introductory calls and discussions. Pitches clients appropriate offerings, customizes according to client need, cross-sells, and loops in subject matter experts, as needed, to “win the business.” Commercial orientation with experience in sales or business development a plus
    • Preparing budget proposals, bids, and client contracts with appropriate input from project team. Familiarity and understanding of corporate contracts or experience with contracts in a corporate environment (i.e. law firm, consulting firm, investment banking) a plus
    • Negotiating budgets and contracts with counterparty; understanding client needs and pain points, while simultaneously maximizing RPI’s value-add
    • Meticulously following up and driving contracts and budgets to completion to minimize the time between initial pitch, potential selection as service provider, and commencement of work by project team
    • Proactive account management throughout the life of the project to ensure client satisfaction and anticipating future client needs / opportunities to provide RPI services
    • Provides follow-up with client after project deliverable has been completed to solicit feedback. Direct experience establishing, developing, and leveraging client relationships a plus
  • Drives clear and constant communication throughout projects with the team regarding key deliverables and communications to client. Constantly seeks clarification to ensure nothing is missed and always leverages opportunities for follow-up
  • Identifies strategic opportunities to approach clients and projects and win the business
  • Takes ownership and streamlines the bid/budget/contract process into a seamless system that facilitates driving the business
  • Identifies new leads and follow-on work and leverages client relationships for new business opportunities
  • Creates and develops client presentations, pitch materials, and responses to requests for proposals (RFPs)
  • Collaborates, helps train/coach, and shares business development and client management skills with other professionals and subject matter experts in order to elevate our capabilities to deliver world-class solutions for clients
  • Maintains knowledge of global competitive landscape, regulatory environment, regulations and guidelines
  • This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Excellent and clear communication skills (written and verbal), attention to detail and time management. Impeccable organization skills with ability to keep track of multiple clients and projects simultaneously; a consummate professional
  • Comfort pitching for business from new and existing clients and selling our regulatory expertise (at a high-level) as it relates to our service offerings
  • Resourceful; a strategic problem-solver who proposes solutions instead of asking questions and leverages existing platforms and technology to achieve efficiencies
  • Relationship-oriented, empathetic, intuitive with client relationships, and a savvy negotiator
  • Analytical, comfortable with numbers, business concepts (e.g. revenue, P&L, bottom line) and has an understanding of the key levers to drive business
  • Results-driven and team-oriented with the ability to influence outcomes and communicate convincingly with key stakeholders
  • Self-sufficient; proven leadership and demonstrated ability to achieve company and client goals
  • A collaborative work-style that takes differing viewpoints into account in reaching decisions
  • A strong academic track record including minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a relevant graduate qualification or 5-8 years of professional experience as a project manager within the pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industries. Direct business development experience or experience in regulatory affairs project management is a plus
